511 Wholeness: Seeking Purpose in Mike’s Passing
Just before I left to attend my holistic health certification course, Mike and I had dinner at a Chinese restaurant. I rarely keep my paper from a fortune cookie, but this one caught my attention, being that I was smack in the middle of Diamond Club extensive travel, and we were making great sacrifices together to see this whole thing through and to keep all ministry and home stuff intact. I took this picture of my cookie-paper.
“Strong reasons make strong actions.”
I had NO IDEA at the time what I was holding in my hand on that tiny piece of paper.
I had not given Mike’s birth date a thought when I felt the 511 Countdown to Wholeness download into my mind for classes. But just after he died, several connections were swiftly made, and these unexpected connections give me hope to keep moving each day forward, seeking PURPOSE, not closure. There MUST be reasons yet unseen, and I will keep chasing after them until we find as many as we can!
Michael Robert Shroyer was born on 5/11/1972.
Michael’s time of death was called at 5:11 a.m.
There is much that I will soon share about the state of his body when he died that propels me to be a purpose-seeker in this.
But it is no coincidence that my missional talk – if I were to have one for my business – happened to be called “The 511 Journey to Wholeness,” and then ironically, we found out after Mike died that there was an emphasis at that hospital called “Journey to Wholeness” that we knew nothing about. (Those pages, tucked in among his 913 pages of medical records, were empty.)
Last week, a friend told me that after our time together combing through those records, she saw a man wearing tactical cargo pants with 5.11 stitched on the tag, and she wondered why firefighters and rescue workers would have that number—a number that clearly stands out to us now.
I did some searching, and found this:
“5.11” is a rock climbing difficulty level as listed in the Yosemite Decimal System. With skill levels ranging from 5.0 (easy) to 5.10 (difficult), 5.11 is even more grueling. 5.11 is officially defined as, “After thorough inspection, you conclude this move is obviously impossible; however, occasionally someone actually accomplishes it.”
That is it! And we are propelled forward, seeking purpose!
Finally, I read Job 5:11 and then James 5:11, which by no coincidence points BACK to JOB!
“The lowly he sets on high, and those who mourn are lifted [and rise] to safety.” ~Job 5:11 (NIV)
“As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.” ~James 5:11 (NIV)
It seems to me that the God of the unstoppable is about to do the impossible! And for this reason, we kneel.
511 Wholeness Journey
During 2013 and 2014, I began to develop a presentation series for my holistic health emphasis. Essential oils, herbs, nutrition, seasons of detoxification, and many other wellness modalities were connecting and creating a solid base from which to help people begin to make positive changes in the way they were living. Our own home was changing, and we were naturally excited to share with others! At the start of 2015, I launched the series and called it “The 511 Journey to Wholeness,” and I talked people through a brief Countdown Overview. This countdown will be the outline for the content shared on this site.
Just as we dial 4-1-1 for information, I wanted people to dial 5-1-1 into their bodies to begin an information search and start a journey into recognizing where the needs are for greater wellness. The Number 5 stands for the FIVE SENSES, which are easily felt, and the Number 11 stands for the ELEVEN BODY SYSTEMS that we can learn to identify and address for optimum health!
From there, I wanted to lead people through the understanding that caring only for the physical needs will leave us in a spin cycle of recurring need. In order to walk into wholeness, we need to address the fullness of the BODY, SOUL, and SPIRIT. To make this easy to memorize, I led them through the COUNTDOWN TO WHOLENESS, and these five numbers will help categorize the content we will regularly share on this site…
