Many people have been telling us since the kids and I opened Mike’s Memorial Celebration with this song that when they hear it played on the radio, a playlist, or a social media music outlet, that they think of us.

If I had five bucks for every time I’ve heard, “You and the kids need to record that song!” then this project would have been paid for with ease!

So, of COURSE we had to include this song, and now I’ll share the deeper meaning of this song to the Shroyer3.

The kids were leading this song with me during Cre8 Family Gatherings in the short months leading up to the weeks of Mike’s sickness battle at home, before going into the 11-day hospital stay.

I posted a video of us singing it together on November 4, 2015 to my facebook timeline.

That day was bizarre; Mike and I were in the thick of our frustrations with the medical visits we had just had, beginning on October 18th. He was struggling more each day, and now battling drug side effects, causing us to stop the drugs and go back to nutritional modalities, seek another doctor visit, another ER trip… and more of the same frustration.

So, prayer was around the clock in the house, and Mike was becoming less active. We were ready for some big answers and signs of Hope from God.

That afternoon, we signed the preliminary purchase papers of the ministry property — something we had been working toward for… four… years!!! It was looking like it wasn’t possible, and then that afternoon, the owner FINALLY agreed to what the land was worth.

photo-nov-04-3-05-41-pmWe all laid our hands on the check, in prayer, and the kids and I sat at the piano to sing this as a way to invite the Lord to continue to move this long-awaited miracle into motion. It was exciting! A sign of Hope that made us giddy, in contrast to the frustrations surrounding Mike’s health battle.

When Mike passed away within just four weeks, I couldn’t believe that this was the way this was all going!

photo-jul-10-12-39-58-amIn planning the Memorial Service, Sadie said, “We should start with ‘Holy Spirit’ and ask God to comfort everyone who comes, Mom.” I agreed. J. Michael was reluctantly in agreement.

Then we DID in fact open the service with this song, and it was during the singing of that song that J. Michael [who always felt like Sadie was the singer and he was not] found a desire and confidence in sharing his voice.

Fast forward five months.
My father passed away [another story for another time], and this song resurfaced a few weeks after that. We were all praying about every new detail of my mom’s new life — where she’d live, how to sell their house, does she go out of state to come to North Carolina? And more.

The next week and a half was absolutely miraculous, and not only did every detail fall into place with unexpected ease, I [with two amazing designer friends] was decorating Mom’s new room — just eleven days after Dad’s passing! And she moved into an assisted care facility FOUR minutes from my house in North Carolina!

Running errands one day, my thoughts were running wild. I was in my car alone [another great cry-it-out place for me when the kids aren’t around], and I had a talk with God that went something like this:

“I can’t believe that all of this has happened! I feel like I am living someone else’s life! This is NOT how things were supposed to be right now. Not. At. All. I know that we expected to be caring someday for one of my parents, but WE were going to be caring for them. Not just ME! This was a Mike and Ami thing, and I can’t believe this is how it’s all happening! You didn’t ASK me if I was okay with ANY of this beforehand! I have had no say at all in any of this! How do you even know that I can handle this! I’m not okay with this!…”

I finished the errands and made it back to our Writer House. The first thing I did was sit at the piano. And until I knew what I wanted to express, I just started singing this song.

Something beautiful happened.

I thought about every circumstance I was NOT OKAY with, and as I sang, I INVITED the Holy Spirit into all of those areas. “Holy Spirit, You are WELCOME in this______, and in this_______, and even in this_______.”

So, today we send out this offering:
To you from me, J. Michael [who sang the melody at the Memorial, but now has to sing the lower harmony with his changing voice], and Sadiella. Singing with us are incredible worship leader friends and their kids! We wanted a large group mixed-generation choir on these next songs… just as Mike would have wanted.

While you listen, please take time to ponder the things that you are not welcoming in your life, and invite the Holy Spirit into every disappointment, hardship, and unfulfilled dream.

The Holy Spirit of God has the power to change the atmosphere.

shroyer3-7We’ve seen it; even when the circumstances remain challenging. He provides an aerial view, and with it comes a mind-shift, a heart-change, and an eternal perspective.

Holy Spirit,
You are welcome here – today.
Amen.

Holy Spirit, You are Welcome Here
By Brian & Katie Torwalt

There’s nothing worth more
That could ever come close
No thing can compare
You’re our Living Hope
Your Presence, Lord

I’ve tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
Your Presence, Lord

Holy Spirit, You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory, God, is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence, Lord
Your Presence Lord

There’s nothing worth more
That could ever come close
No thing can compare
You’re our Living Hope
Your Presence, Lord

I’ve tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
Your Presence, Lord

Holy Spirit, You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory, God, is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence, Lord
Your Presence Lord

Let us become more aware of Your Presence
Let us experience the Glory of Your Goodness
Let us become more aware of Your Presence
Let us experience the Glory of Your Goodness
Let us become more aware of Your Presence
Let us experience the Glory of Your Goodness

Holy Spirit, You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory, God, is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence, Lord
Your Presence Lord

Holy Spirit, You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory, God, is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence, Lord
